Metaphor: ReFantazio is Atlus's most ambitious project outside of Persona. Set in a fantasy kingdom throwing its first election following the king's assassination, you play an unnamed royal mage navigating political intrigue, dungeon-crawling, and social bonds. Its battle system blends turn-based depth with real-time action, its political allegory is bracingly direct, and its cast — the Royal Guard — is one of the best ensembles Atlus has assembled. Its willingness to actually say something about power, fear, and what it means to lead makes it stand above most JRPGs.
