Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice puts you in the role of a disgraced shinobi in a fictionalized Sengoku-era Japan. Unlike previous FromSoftware titles, Sekiro trades character-building for a mastery-based combat system built entirely around posture, deflection, and precise timing. Its approach to death — both the literal resurrection mechanic and the game's thematic fixation on what death means — makes it one of the most thematically coherent games FromSoftware has ever produced. Winner of Game of the Year 2019.
